"Wings to Fly,"
Celebrating National Bird Day,
A Success!

Date: Saturday, January 10th

Time: 2-3:30pm

Location: Story Hour Room of The Parkway Central Library Children's Department, 1901 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.

We had a very successful bird day event with approximately 60 children and their parents attending! They learned about the adventures of Sreeeeeeet the Lorikeet, adapted from the book "Here There & Everywhere." Sreeeeeet was stolen from his forest home and sold to a family from a pet store. The boy eventually returns Sreeeeeeet to his forest home and learns that birds were meant to fly free. Children listened to Moonsong the Storyteller, watched ballet dancer Nora McGinley-Hence flutter about as Sreeeeeeet, learned a song about birds from Jim Harris and the Saint Mad band, made beautiful bird masks with artists Zipora Schulz and Sasha Wright, and embodied bird movements with dancer Lara Vracarich. Families said they had a great time participating in the activities and learning about birds! The Children's Librarian was impressed with our program and invited us back to do other performances. Excerpts from film footage of the event will be posted on the websites of the Avian Welfare Coalition (www.avainwelfare.org) and Born Free USA (www.bornfreeusa.org). Enjoy photos of the event, posted on this page!

Cancellation policy
:
Public Eye will cancel outings when fewer than three families RSVP. Cancellation notices will be emailed at least 24 hours before the event. Those who sent an RSVP for a cancelled event will receive an email and phone call. Others will be notified through the group email list.
If you decide not to attend, please send an email or call to let us know (even if it is last minute). We need an accurate head count to purchase art supplies & make room arrangements.
