Our Mission

Public Eye is a Philadelphia-area group that produces public events featuring the arts. We focus our lens on the interactions between human and nonhuman animals in order to shed light on hidden or ignored injustices and to promote a cruelty-free lifestyle. Public Eye is a project of Mobilization for Animals (PA), a 501C3 nonprofit organization.

Wings To Fly a Success!

Thanks to everyone who made our Wings To Fly program a success last weekend! About 50 children and their parents enjoyed storytelling, art projects, and creative movement. Meghan Mitzel told the story of Lucky the Lorikeet with wit and charm, engaging children in bird sounds, while Lara Vracarich danced the part of Lucky along with a few children as her flock. Zipora Schulz led an art project displaying colorful bird images for kids to take home. Lara taught avian movements to help kids empathize with birds, while Saint Mad played live music. Kids even watched a video of the real lorikeet named Lucky. It was a very active, entertaining, and educational event!
We will post a slideshow of images on our website soon: A DVD of event highlights can be purchased for a donation of $10 (reply to this email if interested). Public Eye is starting to offer our programs, like Wings To Fly, in schools and libraries. For info, contact lisa@publiceyephilly.org.
Save the date for our next Kids Club visit to the Butterfly Exhibit at the Academy of Natural Sciences on Saturday, February 20th, 1-3pm! Will send details soon.

Public Eye’s
Anniversary Dinner

On behalf of Public Eye, our deepest thanks to everyone who made our Anniversary Dinner & Fundraiser a special evening: performers, artists, participants, and staff of Mango Moon. We shared delicious food, great conversation, and laughs as we watched our 5-year retrospective film (prepared by co-founder Jim Harris), listened to Meghan Mitzel's lovely voice as she sang songs from The Unhuggables and Veggie Cabaret, and watched in awe as Moonsong shared her story about the Spider who invented Kente Cloth (as performed in The Unhuggables). Many got great deals on quality artwork and services from our silent auction. We still have a few items remaining if anyone is interested in purchasing them. (Contact Lisa@publiceyephilly.org for a detailed description and list.)

Sincere thanks to Joe Manuppello for his generous donation which made this event possible and to Mobilization For Animals, our supporting non-profit organization.

Logos Exhibition

Goat Vice
by artist Gary Bernard

Public Eye is currently recruiting artists for our upcoming exhibit Myths & Logos, exploring how media images of animals shape public opinion about animal issues. Artists will create original works of art depicting the juxtaposition between animals in the media and how these animals are treated.
